Student Reflection Post

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR BLOG POST #1 "ABOUT ME" BEFORE YOU START ON BLOG POST #2.

For your second blog post, I'd like you to think about the things we've been covering over the past two weeks when it comes to how we socially create these roles of what it means to be masculine or feminine. Reflect on what I've posted on my blog below as well as the discussions that we've had in class about the media, our own social construction, football, and Disney.

Have you experienced this mask of masculinity? How? What are some ways that our culture should be constructing masculinity to provide validation for guys who are not violent or "tough"? Are there examples out there that you know about?

Look for some ways that you are influenced to think about femininity in your life. Maybe the socialization comes from friends, family or ads/commercials. You should have been making a list of the things that you had seen this past week. Post about them. Do you see how we are shaped to think about women? Do you see how harmful it can be? Do you know any examples of this personally?

  1. Most people in the world view masculinity as being strong, fearless, and not someone who cries. Masculinity should be viwed from a differe view such as more than just their strenghts. There is more than physical strength that makes a man masculine. masculinity to me is someone who can be brave and courageous.

I have experienced mascualinity as a disguise, but I know that masculinity can be shaped differently from what are society today views it. The masculinity disguise that I have experienced is people telling me that men have to be strong physically. This is not alawys the case, there is strength in the way we think and distiguish what is right and what's wrong.

Ways that our culture should construct masculinity is by looking at other strneghts that men have. Violence has drawn back our society by thinking that it is the best way of being a man. Our culture should condsider masculintiy as man that can be a gentlemen and not view women as just a sexual desire like the media exposes women, just to entertain men. The media is a prime example of how men view women. women should be portrayed as women with intelligence and dignity that is shown to the public.
